We work through a project in defined stages. This allows all parties to know what tasks are underway when, and who is responsible for them. Each stage is formally presented and recorded, and requires client approval to proceed to the next stage. Staged working helps reduce your risk of taking on a project all in one go.
The sequence of defined stages are :
| Stage number | Name | Tasks & outcomes |
| Stage 0 | Strategic Definition | Appraise project principle feasibility (client will normally have satisfied this), alternative site appraisals |
| Stage 1 | Preparation & Briefing | Collation of needs, desires, budget and site information |
| Stage 2 | Concept Design | Presentation and review of materials (sketches, drawings, models) that explain the proposal |
| Stage 3 | Spatial Coordination | The design is developed, coordinated with other inputs, a Planning Application is often made at this stage |
| Stage 4 | Technical Design | Design information for manufacture and construction is completed, a Building Warrant is applied for, and the work is tendered, and a contractor appointed |
| Stage 5 | Manufacturing & Construction | The building is constructed, inspected, and commissioned |
| Stage 6 | Handover | The complete building is handed over, with owners manual, and aftercare initiated |
| Stage 7 | Use | Post occupancy evaluation |
